How to choose a digital marketing agency in Porto: the questions to ask

By Eduardo Romeira5 min read

There are many marketing agencies in Porto and many offer similar services. The differences may lie in how they work, who does the work and what happens after you sign the contract. These questions help you understand what you're actually hiring.

Who will do the work?

Ask who will manage the account, who will take the photos and film, and who writes the copy.

At some agencies, the person you first speak to isn't the one handling the work day to day.

That isn't necessarily a problem, but you should know how the team is organised.

Do they produce in house or subcontract?

Ask who produces the photography and video.

When production is done in house, there can be more control over the process, schedule and final result.

How will they measure results?

A report should relate to the business's goals.

Depending on the project, it may make sense to track:

  • Contact requests.
  • Bookings.
  • Website visits.
  • Reach.
  • Views.
  • Leads.
  • Sales.

If the report only shows likes and followers, it can be hard to see the commercial impact of the work.

Whose name are the accounts and content in?

Always confirm:

  • The Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn pages are linked to your company.
  • The website domain is in your name.
  • You have access to the content produced.
  • The advertising accounts belong to the company.
  • You know what happens to access when the contract ends.

What does the contract look like?

Ask about the minimum term, the notice period and everything included in the retainer.

A clear proposal should explain: What they do. How often. What it costs. When it starts.

Do they show real work?

Ask to see projects similar to yours.

Logos on a website show who the clients are, but an active account or a case study gives a better sense of the work done.

Do they know the local market?

For businesses that depend on local customers, a nearby agency can make production sessions and in-person meetings easier.

But geographical proximity shouldn't be the only criterion.

You can also weigh response times, working process, experience and the ability to deliver what you need.
